SINGAPORE: Mocha Chai Laboratories (MCL), Singapore’s first fully integrated digital film lab, fully equipped with audio post-production and 4K colour grading facilities, has now become the world’s first dubbing stage to obtain Dolby Atmos certification after installing the Christie Vive Audio cinema sound system into its theatre. It aims to provide the highest quality cinematic audio possible for postproduction tasks.
The installation was completed by Christie’s Singapore partner, Electro-Acoustics Systems, and comprised almost 40 Christie Vive Audio speakers of varying combinations. These included LA1 screen channel loudspeakers, LA3S line array loudspeakers for wall, rear and ceiling sounds, S115 and S218 subwoofers for low frequency effects channels, as well as CDA2, CDA3 and CDA5 Class-D amplifiers for high power output and efficiency.
‘Audio quality and performance are of paramount importance to us, so that filmmakers can fully realise their goals in sound design,’ expressed Yee-Wei Chai, founder and managing director of MCL. ‘Christie Vive Audio enables us to achieve just that. We’re very impressed by its clarity and how it delivers the audio details.'
'Setting up a dubbing theatre has meant that regional filmmakers no longer have to travel to Thailand and Hong Kong for final picture grading and cinema sound mixing,' explained Mr Chai. ‘Now, they can accomplish final mix, online finishing and colour grading at our all-in-one facility without the need to go overseas. We are certainly excited to offer local and regional filmmakers with a choice to have their films completed here with the finest audio system. So far, many filmmakers who have used our dubbing theatre are captivated by the quality and performance, and we’re absolutely convinced that we’ve made the right choice.’
‘We are honoured and delighted that Mocha Chai Laboratories has chosen Vive Audio for its dubbing theatre,’ commented Han Kim, general manager at Christie Singapore.
Lin Yu, vice president at Christie Asia Pacific, also added, ‘MCL has been regarded as one of the region’s leading postproduction houses, and we are pleased that it has selected Vive Audio for its facility. This is a clear testimony that we have set the bar in immersive cinema sound that filmmakers and postproduction professionals appreciate.’
