Modern Stage Service highlights third India-Africa Forum Summit
INDIA: Christie projectors highlighted the action for heads of state and government officials at the recent third India-Africa Forum Summit at the Indira Gandhi Stadium Complex in New Delhi, reportedly forming one of the largest deployments of Christie projectors ever to be used at a major conference in India. The manufacturer’s India partner, Modern Stage Service, utilised 30 Roadster HD20K-J 3DLP projectors to cater for the event.
Described as the biggest gathering of world leaders in India for 32 years, with more than 3,000 delegates in attendance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted more than 50 African leaders during the summit with topics discussed including boosting trade, enhancing security cooperation and exploring ways to deal with poverty, disease, illiteracy and hunger.
Modern Stage Services was tasked with delivering a projection mapping display in the centre of the 70m diameter main floor, on the surface of two large cylindrical screens suspended from the ceiling and also onto the stage’s backdrop, which featured multiple screens of different sizes.
‘Our objective was to create a single canvas that not only exudes a stunning look, but also an awe-inspiring element which is usually absent at major conferences, with the purpose of providing a sense of motion to the stage design without distracting from the protocol of the opening ceremony of the summit,’ commented Davinder Wadhwa, director at Modern Stage Service. ‘Given the size of the stadium and stage area, we decided that the Christie Roadster HD20K-J is the best choice for us to deliver bright, colourful and lifelike images that are worthy of this large-scale event.’
During the opening, a variety of visuals including the India-Africa Forum Summit’s logo – depicting a Lion with one half of an African lion and another half of an Indian lion against the map of Africa overlapping with India in the background – were projected on the cylindrical screens and floor of the circular stage. Live proceedings of the summit were also projected onto multiple large screens which formed the backdrop of the stage, so that delegates could always have a clear view.
‘I applaud Davinder and his team for their ingenuity and innovation in completing this installation for one of the biggest gatherings of world leaders in India for a long time. We’re also delighted that the Christie Roadster J Series projectors installed provided the best visual experience for the delegates,’ said Lin Yu, vice president, Christie Asia Pacific. ‘We are certainly proud to be part of this major conference where leaders from various African nations gather in India to enhance trade and economic cooperation.’
