Nexo modernises The Republic Cultural Centre

SINGAPORE: System integrator Pave System Pte Ltd has replaced the previous PA system in the primary theatre of The Republic Cultural Centre (TRCC) in Singapore. A Nexo Geo S12 line-array distributed by the manufacturer’s regional partner, Yamaha Music (Asia) Pte Ltd, was selected for the upgrade.
The TRCC is a part of Republic Polytechnic, a leading educational institution in the country. The modern building, designed by Maki & Associates, houses three main performing arts venues: a 1,000-seat Theatre, 300-seat Studio and, 120-seat Lab. With an increasingly modern production portfolio Mark Spencer, a former student and head of TRCC's Audio Division, felt it was time the audio was brought up to speed.
‘Audiences nowadays are more in tune with what's going on,’ he commented. ‘They want quality at keen prices, and with the new upgrade, we not only plan to improve their experience, we plan to enhance it.’
Pave System hung two clusters of 10 S12 cabinets either side of the theartre’s stage, and reused the previous four Nexo Alpha S2 subwoofers already installed. NXAMP4x4C digital TD controller amplifiers drive the entire system.
The distributor also had its work cut out to ensure the project was completed flawlessly. ‘We shipped the cabinets in from France even before Pave won the tender,’ explained Lawrence Tan, PA sales and marketing for Yamaha Asia. ‘We wanted to ensure that if we were awarded the project, things would be able to proceed without a glitch.’
‘We started three weeks behind schedule due to all the shows that were taking place, and when they finally managed to remove the old cluster to replace it with the new system, the fine tuning alone took two days,’ concluded Mr Spencer. ‘Overall, though, the installation was pretty smooth and I think everyone did a really great job. We have worked with Yamaha for many years and there is a familiar support there. We trust what they do and the working relationship is really good as well. Now the theatre is as current as the acts that come through.’
