SINGAPORE: Nanyang Technological University (NTU) has acquired a Clear-Com Freespeak II wireless intercom system to aid communications in and around its auditorium. Supplied and installed by Expandore Electronics Pte Ltd, the system includes a total of nine antennas installed at key locations.

One of Singapore’s largest educational establishments and renowned globally as a leader in its field, NTU is no stranger to the use of high-end technology. In choosing a new intercom solution, the university was reportedly seeking ‘a wireless intercom system that could cover a large area and had a wireless belt-pack with a battery capable of lasting throughout an entire day’s event’.Large-scale coverage was also vital, with the system ideally achieving ‘wireless communication from the front of house area (including the foyer), through the audience seating area and to the back of house including the stage and dressing rooms’.

The full solution comprises a single FSII-Base Freespeak II digital wireless base station working in tandem with 20 FSII-BP19-X4-EU belt-packs and 20 CC-300-X4 single-eared headsets. Two PD2203 antenna splitter boxes are also deployed, while the broad coverage requirement is met via nine FSII-TCVR-19-EU active antennas placed throughout the auditorium and dressing rooms, at the side of the stage, above the audience seating, in the foyer and within the audio and video control room. Finally, four AC-60 five way chargers and five BAT-60 Li-ion batteries are included.

According to Expandore Electronics, the installation was considered a success by all concerned. ‘There were no issues,’ assured a spokesperson. ‘The client is pleased with the audio quality and good coverage. The LED torchlight at the bottom of the beltpack is also very handy – especially when users are backstage with low-light conditions.’
