Palme Vietnam 2013 day one report

VIETNAM: Returning to the Saigon Exhibition & Convention Centre (SECC) more than three years since hosting its first Vietnamese Palme show, Informa Exhibitions staged the 2013 exhibition together with a number of workshops and demonstrations. The show floor had noticeably shrunk in size shrunk since 2010, although the organiser was keen to enhance business opportunities at the exhibition.

‘We have created a platform for the industry to gather, learn, share and do business,’ MD (Asia) Rosalind Ng exclaimed. Highlighting economic growth statistics in various national sectors set the tone prior to several exhibition sponsors promoting what visitors to the show could expect to see on their booths.

Palme Vietnam this year includes an outdoor line array system demonstration by eight brands (DAS Audio, JBL, Loud Professional, Master Audio, Nexo, Next-Proaudio, TW Audio and Z-Sound). In addition, a Pioneer DJ and Me competition will provide hands on product workshops and technical seminars. A full day seminar on Broadcast Technologies includes presentations from Ho Chi Minh Television’s (HTV) technical management department and one of Vietnam’s leading media consultants.

Whilst some new distributors such as Pro AVL were exhibiting at Palme Vietnam, the majority of Singaporean companies such as Electronics & Engineering, Esco and PAVE were absent, as were several manufacturers such as Analog Way and Audio Technica. In addition to demonstrating the Vera line array in the outdoor area, TW Audio was keen to promote its new distributor, Film Star.

FBT’s export manager Roberto Mataloni confirmed that his distributor Cong Ty Tnhh Tm was hoping to see over 200 customers over the three days, in which the company was exhibiting the Mitus, Vertus, MaxX, Contractor Series and Qube systems on the booth. Meanwhile, Bill Woods from Funktion One had flown to the show to support his distributor Stage Professional. ‘We enjoy a wonderful working relationship with Mr Hung and his team, so naturally we want to support them in their marketing activities here in Vietnam,’ he said.

The Informa team were kept busy policing the SPL levels in hall 1 of the SECC, whilst the HCMC police ensured that the dBs in the outdoor demonstration area were also reduced. As the show doors closed on the first day at 5pm, the organiser hosted a Vietnamese rock band and served beverages to exhibitors.

Vietnam is very much a country in development at the moment, and Palme Vietnam reflects this with what felt like a sparse visitor count. However, quantity isn’t everything. ‘We’ve met some very influential people today and are happy with the outcome,’ confirmed Stage Professional’s GM Dinh Viet Hung.

Palme Vietnam will continue at the Saigon Exhibition & Convention Centre until November 8th.
