Prism sheds light over Cristallo di Luna refit

MALAYSIA: Prism Lighting moving heads have been employed in a refit of the Cristallo di Luna Bar in Kuala Lumpur, overcoming architectural restrictions in a major refurbishment that has also seen IVA line arrays installed alongside an Allen & Heath mixing console.
The Pacific Regency Hotel Suites in Kuala Lumpur plays host to the Luna Bar, which has recently shifted the focus of its entertainment more towards music, dance and entertainment. While the venue’s interior design and furnishings remained largely unchanged, the management recently devoted its refurbishment budget to creating an improved lighting and sound installation. However, the venue’s low ceiling and decorative plaster panels caused difficulties in the design of the system, while Cristallo’s status as a smoke-free zone prohibited the use of smoke machines and therefore light beams.
Solving the lighting issue are a total of four Prism Spectrum LED Shuffle Pro Prism 60W moving heads that have been installed on the ceiling above the dance floor, using white LEDs as a source of pure white light and a seven colour wheel alongside a seven gobo wheel used for effects. The result is a very narrow 10° light beam from 5m, despite the absence of smoke. The DJ console and stage area is illuminated by a single plug-and-play Prism Spectrum PAR SYS 4 PRP 159, comprising four LED panels together with 144 10mm 1w RGB LEDs in each panel. Two Prism Spectrum Fusion FX PRH X28 LED Strobe and Laser FX units have also been supplied, while the entire lighting system is controlled by PC-based DTS Virtual Lighting Control software.
Meanwhile the sound in the venue was similarly restricted by the low ceiling, as well as the room’s glass windows and fixtures, while the management was keen on achieving a modest level of foreground music playback, allowing guests to converse and placing importance on speaker directivity. Zones have therefore been created in which the dance floor areas are exposed to greater SPL levels, leaving the seating and peripheral areas near the windows served with BGM.
Four ceiling suspended IVA CLA-108F line array cabinets deliver the required dance-floor SPL, providing a narrow vertical dispersion angle towards the standing areas and reducing reflections from the floors and ceilings. A further two units of IVA DP-12MKII full range speakers have been installed as fills in the dance-floor and DJ monitoring areas, while two IVA CLA-115S subwoofers have been added for low frequency extension.
The entire system is powered by a combination of four IVA PRO-12 and IVA PRO-18 amplifiers with Behringer DCX-2496 processors performing speaker management alongside Behringer DEQ-2496 equalisers. An Allen & Heath ZED-22FX mixing console is used for mixing live acts such as jazz bands during weekdays.
