CHINA: Chinese state broadcaster CCTV has added Merging Technologies’ Pyramix 10 to its workflow. The solution is used by the network’s audio team for large events and variety shows that require live multi-track mixing.
CCTV first used Pyramix 10 at a Chinese folk song competition in Beijing. The event lasted for over 12 hours and the solution recorded 128 tracks. Having proved its reliability, it was subsequently deployed for the opening ceremony of the G20 Summit in Hangzhou, where it also recorded 128 tracks.
‘Pyramix has a clever DSP architecture,’ said Yuan Xuecheng, CCTV’s audio department recording engineer. ‘It has the ability to deliver stable ultra-long recording and playback of over 100 tracks and is able to handle all large and critical events. In addition, Pyramix provides us with a compact audio interface, clock for synchronisation and has a user friendly monitor control.’
‘We have many prestigious Pyramix users in China but it is a great honour to have CCTV trusting in our products,’ noted Weishen Xu, president of Merging’s Chinese distributor, Merging Asia. ‘They are covering so many important events during the year and we are very pleased to hear these comments from the technicians and to see this new order confirming their faith in the reliability of Pyramix.’
The broadcaster is currently in the process of commissioning a new OB vehicle, which will reportedly employ a Pyramix MassCore 128 as its main recording system, along with a Lawo console.
