KOREA: An Allen & Heath Qu-32 compact digital mixer with an AB168 remote IO audio rack was recently employed at a joint concert showcasing pianists Kevin Kern and Daydreamat Kepco Art Centre in Seoul, South Korea. The mixer was utilised for live sound reinforcement as well as assisting in capturing a live recording for television and to be mixed down for a live album.
Jaehoon Um managed the project, serving as director and calling on his experience in recording and mixing more than 6,000 soundtracks for film, television and K-Pop. The AB168 was deployed on stage and connected to each microphone, linking to the Qu-32 via a single Cat-5e. The Qu-32 provided both FOH mixes and broadcast feeds, processing all sources, and provided multi-track signal transmission through an iMac connected by USB. Nuendo Live was used as the DAW by the multi-track recording system.
‘The performance of the Qu-32 and AB168 was outstanding,’ said Mr Um. ‘The DSP quality of the Qu-32 is great. I think this console is amongst the best consoles I've operated recently. At first, I was concerned about achieving a studio quality mix but the system provided a flawless and clean sound and really surprised me!’
