Qujiang Polar Ocean Park gets Active Audio solution

CHINA: Real Music Engineering recently installed a substantial Active Audio sound reinforcement system into the Qujiang Polar Ocean Park. Located in Xi’an City, the park hosts more than 300 species and contains approximately 6,000 tons of water.
With a total construction area of 100,000sq-m, the park is divided between the aquarium, the Rhine square and the Sea Business Club. Real Music Engineering installed a total of 87 Active Audio CL62 ceiling speakers throughout the different exhibition zones to play sound effects, background music and to provide commentary according to the different exhibitions. In addition, two Active Audio SA250S StepArray columns were installed in the dolphin performance hall.
‘Because of the uniqueness of a water show, the air is very humid in the dolphin hall building,’ commented Real Music’s Sharon Lee. ‘It is then difficult to find the right material which will absorb sound but not water. Furthermore, building decorations use reflective material, and the whole roof and walls are made of high reflective glass. In addition, they are all shaped in a way that sound is focused towards the stage. Finally, the architectural acoustics result in high reverberation and delay. Traditional amplification methods cannot meet the basic demand of language resolution.’
On-site testing and comparisons between different products proved to be beneficial for the client when deciding upon a solution. Due to their precise coverage angle, which decreases sound reflections, the SA250S columns were deemed most suitable for the dolphin hall.
According to Active Audio, ‘the final solution goes completely beyond the client's expectation’.
