Renkus-Heinz Iconyx tames Bank of China’s Auditorium

HONG KONG: Set against the backdrop of Hong Kong’s iconic skyline, the uniquely designed Bank of China skyscraper has received a new audio system from Renkus-Heinz. Installed by Audio System Consultants (Asia) Ltd up on the 70th floor, the system provides coverage for the building’s large multi-use auditorium and meeting spaces that are used to host banquets, meetings and other special events. The installed system centres around Iconyx IC Live digitally steered arrays, with four IC16-R-II columns providing eight steerable beams.
‘It’s a very live acoustical space, with an open overlook and high glass windows, and achieving good spoken word intelligibility has been a challenge,’ explained a spokesperson from Audio System Consultants (Asia) Ltd. ‘The Iconyx steered beam technology enabled us to focus the sound directly on the areas where the audience is seated, and away from the windows and reflective surfaces.’
Low frequency reinforcement is provided courtesy of a pair of PN212-SUBR subwoofers, creating an audio system capable of catering for live music performances as well as spoken presentations. Microphone and live feeds are interfaced via a Rane HAL3 multiprocessor, simultaneously providing system remote control via a tablet or laptop.
The installed system has been in use for several months now and has reportedly been a success with both the clients and guests.
