SAE Institute Singapore tackles loudness with BCI and TC

SINGAPORE: Regional broadcast solutions specialist Broadcast Communications International (BCI) has equipped Singapore’s SAE Institute, part of the world’s leading educator for the creative media industries, with software intended to help its students learn the importance of loudness for broadcast and production and how simple it can be to implement. Based on the manufacturer’s Multichannel Loudness Bundle, TC’s loudness radar meter and loudness correction plug-ins have now been installed on all DAWs within the Institute.

As in the rest of the world, loudness remains a hot topic within Asia’s broadcasting and recording communities, while TC Electronic has long been at the forefront of efforts to tame the issue. The LCn bundle now being used by SAE Institute Singapore comprises a number of tools that can either run as native plugins within Pro Tools or as standalone software, including versions for both stereo and 5.1 applications (LC2n and LC6n respectively). Also included are the radar-based LMn2 and LMn6 meters for loudness and true peak.

‘I am very excited that SAE has decided to install our LCn Loudness Correct plugins and applications across all of its audio workstations,’ commented Ole Jensen, VP of sales, broadcast and production at TC Electronic. ‘It is absolutely key that every student gets the possibility to work with the best tools and learn that delivering loudness-correct content to any platform is not just possible, it’s also really easy with the LCn solution at hand.’

SAE Institute head of operations Giri Shanker was equally enthusiastic about the project. ‘SAE Institute Singapore is pleased to garner this partnership with BCI and TC Electronic,’ he said. ‘SAE Institute has now outfitted the campus’ media lab rooms with the latest standards in broadcast and production software. This new addition will greatly enhance overall student knowledge as well as their hands-on experience when it comes to understanding the compliancy for all professional loudness standards within the various sectors of the industry.’

Finally, BCI is anticipating the broader education benefits that will arise following the project. ‘We are very excited to be part of this exciting collaboration and we will be organising loudness related talks and seminars soon,’ explained sales manager Brian Ong. ‘We look forward to sharing more information on what loudness is and how easy it is to integrate into today’s workflow.’
