SBS goes big with LaON Technology

KOREA: As a result of interference issues experienced during the broadcast of a major concert last year, Korean broadcaster SBS (Seoul Broadcasting System) has chosen LaON Technology LT550 Expert systems to cover this season’s various large-scale live shows and award ceremonies. Delivered by Soundfox International Co Ltd, the 5.5GHz UNII band systems and RBS25 scalable repeaters will be used by the broadcaster’s OB van team.
LaON systems have previously been used by SBS on a number of productions, including K-Pop Star, The Blue Dragon Movie Awards, SBS Drama Awards, SBS Entertainment Awards, SBS Song Festival, Dream Concert and The Music Trend. The purchase of additional units and new accessories to facilitate cabling at tough venues reportedly allows SBS to also deploy the system for its biggest events to ‘support the wireless communications without audio breakups or dropout during operation’.
‘The OB van team technical manager, Yeol Kyu Kim, mentioned that the audio quality is like a wired system and shared a tip to locate an RBS25 repeater as high as possible on a light stand, allowing it to cover an even wider area than expected,’ explained a spokesperson from LaON. ‘He is a big fan of LaON intercoms and often provides comments and ideas for future solutions.’
