INDIA: In keeping with its tradition of sharing industry best practices with audio professionals across the world, Sennheiser Electronics India, in partnership with Real Image, has conducted Neumann masterclasses in Chennai and Mumbai at the famous AM Studios and Yash Raj Studios respectively. Over 100 sound engineers from Chennai, Mumbai and other parts of India attended the two workshops that were focused around Recording, Mixing and Select Monitoring.
‘We are elated with the response of the Neumann masterclasses in Mumbai and Chennai. As a Neumann partner, it has been our endeavour to ensure that the technology and innovation are highlighted through such classes,’ said Mr Vinay, business manager of the Audio Division at Real Image. ‘Interactive sessions like these help us to understand the needs of today’s sound engineer better.’
The two masterclasses were conducted by Shantanu Hudlikar, chief engineer at Yash Raj Studios (YRF Studios) in Mumbai and Ashish Manchanda, sound engineer and owner, Flying Carpet Productions at AM Studios in Chennai. While Mr Hudliker conducted his live mixing and monitoring workshop with one of India’s leading fusion bands, Indian Ocean, Mr Manchanda chose a more classical route with a band from Chennai’s Swanabhoomi, Kala Niketan. Both the sessions were conducted using Neumann microphones and monitors.
‘The Neumann masterclasses were organised with the aim of reinforcing the importance of knowledge sharing,’ said Jibu Ramachandran, senior product manager, Neumann, Sennheiser Electronics India. ‘The sound engineer fraternity is relatively small compared to other specialised careers. It is imperative for a legendary brand like Neumann to encourage such get-togethers through workshops and specialised training courses. Going forward, one can expect such workshops in more cities across India.’
In addition to the two interactive sessions by Mr Hudlikar and Mr Manchanda, special sessions on Neumann technology were conducted by Andrew Goldberg, product manager of studio monitor systems at Neumann, Germany, as well as Marcus Blank, APAC marketing and sales manager at Neumann, Germany.
‘I am really happy to be a part of the first Neumann masterclass in India,’ Mr Goldberg commented. ‘I truly feel that Indian sound engineers are on par with engineers globally and we are committed to ensuring that the engineers here get access to the best sound equipment available.’
Commenting on the overall success of the workshop, Vipin Pungalia, VP sales and marketing of the Professional Segment at Sennheiser Electronics India said ‘We are extremely happy with the overwhelming response we have received from some of India’s top sound engineers during the two Neumann masterclasses. We are honoured that Shantanu and Ashish could spare time from their busy schedules and share insights into industry best practises in sound recording, mixing and select monitoring. Such engaging sessions reinforce our commitment to making the best microphones and studio monitors available in the industry today, making every studio session a memorable one.’
