CHINA: Sennheiser Group and the Shanghai Concert Hall have collaborated to rename the Shanghai Concert Hall, a 1930s heritage building in the heart of the city, as the Sennheiser Shanghai Concert Hall. The opening event on 10 March also launched the Sennheiser-owned record label, Sennheiser Media. The opening concert featured the label’s first signing, 14-year old Chinese concert pianist prodigy A-Bu.
As part of the agreement, Sennheiser is to equip the concert hall with state of the art theatrical and sound reinforcement systems, including its 9000 series wireless microphones and loudspeakers from Italian manufacturer K-array. Sennheiser also plans to set up a professional recording studio scheduled for completion in 2015 inside the concert hall, which can be used to record live performances. Once the facility is ready, the Sennheiser Shanghai Concert Hall will introduce the Young Talent Inspires project to help up and coming artists record an album and promote it through Sennheiser’s global sales network.
Officiating at the renaming ceremony were Daniel Sennheiser, CEO of Sennheiser, Marc Vincent, president of Sennheiser Greater China, Zhang Zhe, president of Shanghai Grand Theatre Arts Centre and Mrs Fang Jing, deputy general manager of Shanghai Concert Hall. ‘This collaboration is an important milestone in our continuous pursuit of perfection,’ said Mr Sennheiser. ‘It's a privilege to be here in China.’
Added Mr Vincent, ‘It is with pride and honour that Sennheiser joins forces with the prestigious Shanghai Concert Hall to promote music and audio culture in China.’
The Shanghai Concert Hall has traditionally hosted a wide range of musical events including jazz and classical performances, and Sennheiser promises the hall’s acoustics under its auspices will be second to none. A team has been set up to maintain the equipment and ensure all performances are fully supported. Sennheiser will also provide regular training workshops for the technical team at the concert hall. The cooperation will see the Shanghai Concert Hall providing more charity events and free showcases to promote music and the arts, such as the Lunch Time Concert and Weekly Radio Concert series. Ticket prices will be maintained and managed appropriately to benefit the general public.
‘We are glad that the Shanghai Concert Hall and Sennheiser have reached this incredible cooperation,’ said Mr Zhe. ‘This year marks the beginning of the second decade following our relocation to this venue. To join hands with this leading audio brand provides many possibilities for the future of the concert hall. We believe that this cooperation will bring about a huge impact on the development of musical culture in Shanghai.’
The Sennheiser Shanghai Concert Hall, originally the Nanjing Theatre, was the first professional concert hall in China and aims to become a new platform to develop and promote of music in the country. It is also the first time in Sennheiser’s history that a performance centre has been named after the company, and together with the launch of Sennheiser Media, signals a new direction for the group.
