Sennheiser sponsors new music project in Hong Kong

CHINA: Sennheiser has announced its unveiling as sound partner to the new music project The Modern Academy. Co-presented by the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble and Goethe-Institut Hongkong, The academy brought some of Germany’s most talented musicians, sound engineers and composers to Hong Kong to inspire a new generation of talent from the Pearl River Delta.

‘It is our mission to help support and nurture young musicians and foster the growth of the music industries in the region, whether it be pop, rock, or classical,’ said Marc Vincent, president of Sennheiser, Greater China. ‘Hong Kong is the perfect setting for a project like The Modern Academy, with the city’s long tradition as a meeting-point between Chinese and Western thinking, music and culture.’

The Modern Academy is an intensive educational series that focuses on increasing the skills of advanced students and professional young musicians in the performance and appreciation of music of the late 20th and 21st centuries. Sennheiser’s involvement in the project came about as a result of the relationship it enjoys with the Goethe-Institut Hongkong. The German manufacturer provided state-of-the-art microphones, including recording mics used by RTHK Radio 4 in its recording and subsequent broadcast of the opening concert.

‘As always, when the most natural sound reproduction of acoustical instruments both in recording and live-amplification applications is of critical importance, Sennheiser microphones are the first choice,” said renowned sound engineer Sebastian Schottke. ‘I am very happy that we were able to use different kinds of Sennheiser microphones for a large variety of contemporary music applications for the Modern Academy Concert Series, always with the best results.’
