Sennheiser supports Clockenflap music festival

CHINA: Sennheiser microphones and K-Array speakers were recently put to use for the Clockenflap music festival at the West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade. In its sixth outing, Clockenflap attracted 33,500 music lovers.

Sennheiser assumed full responsibility for Clockenflap’s audio system, and provided the sound for all the stages, including the Harbourflap Stage (main stage), Robot Stage, Replay Stage, Your Mum Stage and the Vans Stage.

Aside from supplying the full audio set up, Sennheiser also provided a number of top sound engineers to manage each stage and oversee the audio output throughout the festival. More than 100 artists performed across the festival's seven stages during the three-day event, while other attractions included an Art Village, Film Tent, Cabaret side show, Silent Disco, Clockencraft Market, Dinosaur Enclosure and a kids' area.

‘This was our first time cooperating with Clockenflap, but we have been sponsoring a number of festivals across China for a while, and we felt like we had neglected Hong Kong a bit which was how we came to be here,’ explained Marc Vincent, president, Sennheiser, Greater China. ‘We were waiting for the right moment and the right festival and through some friends, we met with Justin Sweeting, Jay Forster and Mike Hill from Clockenflap, and we clearly had shared visions of what we wanted for the festival. Our ideas about a quality festival were aligned so we decided to give it a try, and so far so good! As part of Sennheiser’s sponsorship of the event, we also brought in three exciting and legendary artists to perform. China’s godfather of rock and roll, Cui Jian was a tantalising treat as the headliner of the festival.

‘We met Cui Jian through common acquaintances and had a great conversation,’ Mr Vincent continued. ‘I was already a great fan of Cui Jian and I saw his performances at some of the festivals prior to this, so I had great admiration and respect for the man as an artist. His influence on society in China was the catalyst that gave social impact to a generation of music fans.’

‘Since my last performance in Hong Kong was back in 2007, I was very glad for the opportunity to perform here once again,’ said Mr Jian. ‘It’s a real pleasure to be invited by Sennheiser to perform here at Clockenflap. Sennheiser is a renowned audio company and a specialist in the music industry. They know I am all about rock and roll and so it was a pleasure to cooperate with the Sennheiser team. As for Clockenflap, it is a big music festival that will continue to grow thanks to its many good bands and performers from overseas.’

Other bands to take to the stage were Noukilla from the Caribbean and Hanggai from Mongolia. ‘We have worked with Sennheiser professionally at various events, including the JZ Music Festival in Shanghai,’ said a member of Hanggai. ‘Our lead vocalist appreciates the quality of a Sennheiser microphone as it carries his voice well without having to strain or distort his vocals. We look forward to our continued cooperation with Sennheiser as their endorser and are incredibly thrilled to be a part of this festival in Hong Kong.’

Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s, GEM had the chance to perform with the Sennheiser microphones during her set. ‘I have spent several years now touring and performing and I used the Sennheiser 9000 microphone this time. I loved it – it’s a solid live performance microphone system with a lot of support, and a beautiful crisp sound. It allows us to indulge ourselves and perform without having to force anything. We can sing naturally and enjoy the moment.’

‘Music is food for the soul and Sennheiser will always be there to support and promote music across the world,’ Mr Vincent said. ‘Being a part of Clockenflap was a pleasure as we had the opportunity to showcase the power of Sennheiser sound to our very own audience in Hong Kong. We look forward to many more events like this in the coming future.’
