INDIA: Registration has opened for bands to enter the second edition of Sennheiser’s Top 50. Following the success of last year’s inaugural competition, held to discover the top 50 emerging bands in India, the manufacturer is upping the ante.
Previous winning band The Local Train beat over 300 entries to receive a two-year endorsement deal with Sennheiser. Along with the bands that ranked second and third, The Local Train also won Sennheiser evolution wireless D1 microphone sets. In this upcoming instalment, the winning band will receive evolution wireless 500 G3 vocal microphones and HD 280 Pro headphones, as well as the two-year endorsement deal and a trophy. The panel of judges will comprise musical trio Shankar Ehsaan Loy, singer-songwriter Raghu Dixit, recording engineer and music producer Ashish Manchanda and singer, composer and producer Papon.
Following the registration period a shortlist will be released consisting of the top 100 entrants as chosen by the panel. Those ranking from the sixth to the 50th positions will then be revealed following a combined public and judges vote, while the bands ranking in the top five places will battle it out during a grand finale in front of the judges.
‘I believe that India has plethora of talent that needs to be nurtured and Sennheiser Top 50 is the right platform for it,’ said Mr Dixit. ‘I am hopeful that bands will recognise the potential that lies in this platform and start their journey to the top.’
‘The overwhelming response from the first edition has encouraged us to bring back the Sennhseiser Top 50 and make some more dreams come true!’ enthused Vipin Pungalia, sales and marketing director for Sennheiser Electronics India Pvt Ltd. ‘There is great talent in this country and we want to offer the right platform to showcase it. We are excited about the jury we’ve brought on board to select our Top 50.’
