Singapores ITE is crystal clear when teaching its students

SINGAPORE: Since its establishment on 1 April 1992 in Singapore, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) has become well-known as a provider of broad-based, multi-disciplinary curriculums encompassing courses in Applied & Health Sciences, Business & Services, Design & Media, Electronics & InfoComm Technology and Engineering.

The post-secondary institution is maintained by the Ministry of Education offering pre-employment training to secondary school leavers in addition to further education and training for those already employed but looking to brush up their skills. The on-air studio is part of the life skills programme, and was established to develop the students' skills for life-long learning. Taught as individuals and in teams, the students can develop their problem-solving and analytical skills, in order to develop their technical skills in addition to holistic training for lifelong learning. Broadcast Communications International (BCI) was recently contracted to supply and install a Lawo Crystal 12 console for its on-air studio together with a Lawo Crystal 4 console for the editing room. Furthermore, Netia Radio Assist software has been integrated with Musicmaster for scheduling programmes. The system has been designed for technical ease of use, integrating the On-Air and Editing suites, thus creating a seamless workflow between the two.

BCI were bestowed with the Distributor of the Year Award by Lawo in 2009 and if sales continue, they will feel confident of retaining their prize. They were called upon to upgrade the Temasak Polytechnics’ on-air studio and recording/production facilities for its students recently. The Polytechnic in Singapore provides 52 full-time diploma courses in applied sciences, business, design, engineering, humanities and social sciences, and informatics and IT to some 15,000 students.  One of the Diploma’s provided by the Polytechnic is in Communications & Media Management for providing students with media-related business skills in public relations, corporate communications and entertainment are taught. During the senior year, students are required to complete a six-month internship programme with media and media-related companies such as CNBC, MediaCorp and Singapore Press Holdings, before going on to choose a specialised course in print, broadcast or media marketing. BCI were called upon to install a Lawo Zirkon 12-fader console into the On-Air Main Conty studio in a addition to providing a Lawo Crystal 8-fader console into the Recording/Production Conty B studio.  The Lawo mixers were selected on account of their flexibility, reliability and ease of use, allowing them to be configured or modified by the users for their own personal requirements.
