INDIA: Smoke & Mirrors, a visual effects and postproduction company with offices in London, Shanghai and New York, has installed Avid Pro Tools S6 control surfaces into its new facility in Chennai. The decision comes after the company’s previous, positive experience using the product at its London office, while the company also expects it to improve the workflow between sites. The setup of the Chennai studio was handled by Ansata Computer Systems.
With S6s installed in both London and Chennai, ‘this new setup allows us, if needed, to share projects with ease between our two offices,’ explained Scott Little, head of audio at the company. ‘A project can be loaded in a matter of seconds, enabling us to have a very fluid and efficient workflow. In essence, it’s an extension of our London site.’
‘Since we installed the S6 two years ago in London, we’ve gained a great deal of experience using the console, and it’s been wonderful,’ continued Mr Little. ‘When talk of setting up the Indian office came about, there was no question about it, we were definitely installing the S6.’
‘In terms of performance, our systems are built to easily handle the high volume and quick turnaround of our short-form work. As we record a tremendous amount of voiceover, both in studio and via Source Connect and ISDN, the S6’s functionality and performance helps us to easily and efficiently manage sessions,’ Mr Little concluded.
