St Bernard's College auditorium gets new FOH system

AUSTRALIA: Working with local distributor Jands, JBN Sound Solutions was recently contacted to supply and install a front of house PA system and additional foldback cabinets for the St Bernard's College’s auditorium in Essendon. JBN Sound Solutions promptly contacted Pulse AV for the installation of equipment from JBL, Soundcraft, Shure and BSS Audio.

‘The college needed a solution that was easy to use yet also future proof,’ commented Adam Dullens of Pulse AV. ‘For FOH mix, a Soundcraft Si Compact mixer was chosen as it is has a similar layout to an analogue mixer. That way the students can experience an analogue console yet in a digital world. It's a small console that is packed with power and offers amazing features for its purchase price – plus it sounds great.’

A Soundcraft Compact stage box was also supplied and installed on the stage and connected to the console via a Cat-5 cable. The PA consists of two hangs of JBL VRX with each hang housing a VRX915S subwoofer and four VRX928LA compact line array mid/high boxes. Everything is run by a BSS Soundweb London Blu-100 networked signal processor.

‘The JBL VRX solution delivered the correct horizontal dispersion for what we were hoping to do,’ said Mr Dullens. ‘Some of the other companies quoting for the job said they needed to install three PA hangs – left, centre, right - but we said we could do it with two, thanks to the VRX. Once it was installed, the college said that it’s fantastic and covers all the areas.’

Meanwhile, four Shure SLX wireless microphone units and a combination of SM58 handhelds and beltpacks were supplied along with an antenna distribution system.

‘The wireless kits are up in the box and the antennas are installed over the stage,’ added Mr Dullens. ‘They've been fantastic – easy to use yet can cater for multiple scenarios.’
