SVSI enables networking at the G20 Summit

CHINA: Hangzhou, the capital of China’s Zhejiang province, recently hosted the latest instalment of the G20 Summit. The international forum that comprises the governments and central bank governors from 19 countries, with the European Union serving as the 20th entity, is held to enable discussion of global issues from international financial stability to climate change. The summit was held at the newly-built Hangzhou International Expo Center and for an event of this scale and importance, with 20 influential world leaders in attendance, a suitable networked A/V system was required to distribute audio and video throughout the 850,000 sq-m facility. Chosen to cater to this was AMX’ SVSI line, with 150 of the Harman brand’s devices deployed for networked video encoding, decoding and transmission.

‘SVSI was selected in this case because of its reliability and stability as well as its versatility,’ explained Kevin Morrison, senior vice president, enterprise for Harman Professional Solutions. ‘Hosting a world-level conference in such a massive and newly delivered building is a complex undertaking. The facilities had never been fully utilised by any large events, let alone meetings like the G20, so Harman was glad to help the Expo Center rise to the occasion.’

While the leaders from the 20 member states converged and conversed in the main conference, luncheon and press conference halls, other officials and politicians from each of the countries could watch and hear the summit via an interpretation system and screens that were equipped in 20 hearing rooms. The SVSI system was set up to distribute audio and high-res video between the main conference hall and the hearing rooms across the IP network. The solution was operated from the central control room using the SVSI video control platform.

‘We continue to see SVSI-based systems selected for major implementations,’ added Mr Morrison. ‘The powerful performance, low latency, flexibility and scalability of the SVSI system ensured smooth distribution and high-quality presentation of video content in multiple rooms across the Expo Center.’

‘The SVSI Series has proven itself to be an efficient and stable solution for IP video and audio distribution,’ concluded Harman’s senior director, enterprise marketing, Lee Dodson. ‘The fault-free performance at China’s G20 Summit is just another showcase of its capabilities in the field.’
