Taiden gets ASEM talking

MONGOLIA: The Shangri-La Hotel in Ulaanbaatar recently hosted the 11th ASEM Summit (Asia-Europe Meeting), attended by leaders from the 21 Asian and 30 European countries that form the ASEM membership, as well as representatives from two intergovernmental organisations. As the president of Mongolia, Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, welcomed representatives from the 51 member nations, Taiden’s Paperless Multimedia Conference System was put to use, facilitating the discussions.
ASEM was formed in 1996 as a forum for establishing and maintaining relationships and cooperation between the countries involved from both continents. The theme of the 11th ASEM summit was ‘20 Years of ASEM: Partnership for the Future through Connectivity’ and saw discussion of safety, partnership and development. Among the political figures in attendance were the Premier of the People's Republic of China, Li Keqiang, and Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel.
A total of 15 languages were spoken at the summit, with organisers requiring immediate interpretation. To cater for this, Taiden provided 78 HCS-4385 fully digital interpreter units, 38 professional interpreter booths and 1,500 HCS-5100R digital IR receivers.
The summit comprised a main venue and multiple branch venues, presenting a challenge with regards to auto video tracking and recording. Taiden’s HD Video Tracking System, HD Video Matrix and Professional AV Recorder for Conference system were all implemented to tackle this potential problem, providing fully HD video tracking and transmission.
In the main venue, 57 of the manufacturer’s New Generation Paperless Multimedia Congress System delegate units were deployed along with HCS-3316HDB HD video conference cameras. HCS-3316HDB units were also utilised in the branch venues.
The most visually striking of the venues at the summit was the ASEM Villa Large Ger, a nomadic yurt style structure that was equipped with 56 HCS-4887 Fully Digital Congress System tabletop delegate units and 170 HCS-5100R Digital IR receivers. There was limited space in this particular venue and as a result, the interpreter booths were located outside, interpreting remotely. ‘I can confirm that the remote system worked swimmingly,’ said the head interpreter. ‘Taiden did a great job.’
The Taiden systems received praise all round, with the interpreters reportedly complimenting the interpreter consoles for the ‘clear voices delivered’ and the user-friendly interface, as well as the Taiden support team that were on-hand throughout the event. ‘Professional, careful, and very much prepared,’ was how ASEM technical consultant, Walpurga Speckbacher, described the Taiden technical team.
