Tech-Trust rings up largest ever Lectrosonics sales in Japan

JAPAN: Lectrosonics presented distributor Tech-Trust with a special award during InterBEE 2014. A large engraved bell was given to the Japanese distributor for placing the two biggest orders ever received by the US manufacturer, totalling 1,200 channels of wireless microphone systems.
The award was presented to a surprised Tsuyoshi Kawabata, president of Tech-Trust, by Lectrosonics vice president of sales Gordon Moore. Mr Moore went on to explain the company’s tradition of ringing bells at its New Mexico headquarters whenever a large order is received.
‘We call it “bell math”,’ said Mr Moore. ‘We have three bells, a large one which indicates the biggest sales, which you can hear across the whole building, and two smaller ones for lesser orders. The bells are a big moral booster for all our staff.’
The first of the large orders, which generated nine rings, was received in late August from PA company Comstock, which required 477 channels of the Venue series receiver and SM series miniature transmitters. Comstock works extensively on live concerts and musicals, and needed to upgrade its radio mic inventory to comply with Japan’s new frequency regulations, which would render existing stock obsolete in the future. ‘Comstock had to replace everything with new equipment conforming to the new standards,’ said Mr Kawabata. ‘So Lectrosonics needed to develop a new product especially for the Japanese market.’
A month later, a second order for 752 channels of the same system was placed by SBS, a company specialising in Kabuki theatre. ‘When that order came in we did it all over again – this time with 11 rings,’ continued Mr Moore. ‘It was very exciting, and we decided it was appropriate that Tech-Trust also had a bell they could ring in their own office. It doesn’t have to be just for Lectrosonics, they can use it for orders of all the brands they represent.
‘We ring the bell on average once a day, and sometimes twice, but never this much. And as a result this is the first time Lectrosonics has created an award like this.’
