The 'Voice of China' goes wireless with Wisycom

CHINA: Tasked with creating a wireless sound solution to support operations for the popular reality television programme The Voice of China, audio engineer Jin Shaogang turned to Italian manufacturer, Wisycom. Mr Shaogang was given technical support from Wang Dan and the staff at Audio-Technica (Greater China) Ltd.

Mr Shaogang and his team used 12 channels of Wisycom wireless, including the MRK960 modular wireless microphone receiver system, MTH400 wideband handheld transmitters with DPA capsules, SPL218AW wideband active antenna splitter and LBNA UHF wideband antenna. The show’s presenter and contestants used the MHT400 handheld mics for both the recorded sessions and live show finale. With the help of Audio-Technica’s resident technical support engineers in Beijing, Mr Shaogang used Rohde & Schwarz FSH3 spectrum analysers for cross checking to ensure the cleanest frequency bands were selected.

‘Wisycom’s products offer the widest operational bandwidth of any of its competitors and tend to be easier to adapt in a harsh environment than other manufacturers,’ explained Mr Shaogang. ‘The ±1dB gain adjustment in the antenna with the integrated booster is a great feature for more accurate adjustment. Wisycom receivers also support major competitors’ transmitter products, which is another great feature we appreciate. Wisycom’s ultra wideband helps resolve frequency band allocation when it comes to the necessity of maximising the usage of available frequency bands.

‘The automatic scan feature for best channel, squelch and other automatic setup options helped save a lot of time in troubleshooting intermodulation problems, and helped to avoid interference caused by LED and lighting,’ continued Mr Shaogang. ‘With Wisycom, we could precisely adjust the gain of the entire wireless system and antenna feeder.’

Mr Shaogang also credits Audio-Technica for its collaborative effort. ‘Audio-Technica provided a lot of Wisycom product presentations and training for our sound team and also let us evaluate the products in various events. This generated product awareness and understanding which makes us more interested in knowing the capability of the products.’
