INDIA: Registration has opened for this year’s Sennheiser Top 50. Now in its third year, the competition aims to discover the top 50 emerging bands in India with the winner receiving a two-year endorsement deal from the manufacturer.
The panel of judges will be formed from Indian artists Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Raghu Dixit and Papon and the top four bands will be invited to participate in a battle of the bands at the competition’s grand finale in Mumbai. Registration is open until 1 July and the top 100 entrants will be announced on 12 July. Following this, the top three bands will be ranked from each of four zones – North (Delhi), South (Bangalore), East (Shilong) and West (Pune) – and those 12 will battle in regional finals. Once the top four have been revealed, the bands placing from fifth to 50th will be ranked by a combination of public voting and a jury decision.
During the first two editions of Sennheiser Top 50 more than 2,000 musicians from 75 cities took part spanning a range of genres, including pop, rock, fusion, classic, metal, jazz and blues. ‘The overwhelming response from the last two editions has encouraged us to come back with yet another season of Sennheiser Top 50,’ said Vipin Pungalia, director of Sennheiser India’s professional segment. ‘There is great talent in the country and we want to offer them the right platform to showcase it.’
