Tom Course joins Groove Temple

INDIA: Mumbai-based audio consultancy, Groove Temple, has recently expanded its team with the appointment of British audio engineer Tom Course. Mr Course brings over 15 years of experience to the company and will be kept busy with a full roster of consultancy projects, systems engineering and front of house duties throughout India, as well as being involved in a full audit systems check for the Hard Rock Group in India.

‘Tom working for us exclusively will be a great asset to the company, as a musician he has a great ear,’ enthused Grove Temple founder and CEO Kaveer Shahani. ‘He’s been mixing bands for us and he understands system engineering and music calibration tools.’

Prior to joining Groove Temple, Mr Course worked for SSE in the UK and with the Comedy Store in London as its technical director. After travelling to India to oversee the store’s opening in Mumbai in 2010 and consulting on the Canvas Club on the floor above, he remained in the country.

‘One of the biggest challenges I come across here in India is the amount of speccing that has to go on and then hunting down companies who really know what they’re doing,’ Mr Course explained. ‘There are certainly some groups who do understand it, have done the ground work, want to learn and they’re great but there is still a real need for education here in the pro audio space. Although my background has been in FOH consulting, I’ve also run festivals end-to-end and managed venues so to be able to come in and see the whole space and see how the audio fits into that space is incredibly useful – even say in simple terms of time lines, you get someone turning up from the audio crew, then the lighting team arrives and the stage crew all at the same time and it’s a whole muddle. It’s those sort of things that can really be streamlined properly and where my expertise is invaluable.’

‘Now Tom is on board and dedicated to this area, we can really grow the business and benefit from his increased level of expertise as technology is changing so much,’ added Mr Shahani. ‘We can also look at expanding with projects outside of India in the future in the Middle East and South East Asia.’
