TSC deploys dual-redundant Optocore ring for SEA Games ceremonies

SINGAPORE: Designed by major events specialist The Show Company (TSC), an Optocore fibre ring system was deployed at the 55,000-capacity Singapore National Stadium to support the opening and closing ceremonies of the South East Asia Games. The project led TSC to invest in a significant amount of Optocore equipment through local distributor Total Solution Marketing (TSM).
TSC added to its inventory eight X6R-FX-8AE/8LO Optocore converters along with three X6R-FX-16MI, two X6R-TP-16MI and five X6R-TP-16LO interfaces and a central DD8RP repeater to accommodate the project.
‘Optocore is a very stable and easily expandable system – ideal for large scale deployment such as this,’ offered TSC’s Joseph Gan. ‘The scale and the importance of the audio support for the Games made it mandatory to have a large dual redundant ring system as nothing is allowed to fail.’
The entire audio system setup is based on Optocore devices as the main frame, and all audio signals in the stadium were routed through the network. All 18 devices were connected in the loop, including 11 X6R-FX devices set in 11 locations throughout the stadium. Six of the X6R-FXs were located in the control room, receiving AES3 signals from Dolby Lake rack processors and analogue signals from the back-up Dolby Lake rack. Both racks were fed by Avid Profiles.
‘Signals were then distributed through the network to all locations, and then we just picked up the AES3 signals and analogue signals to the amplifiers,’ Mr Gan continued.
As well as transmitting audio signals to the power amplifiers, the network was also used to control them. This, in turn, fed a Nexo STM line array system.
‘One thing that we loved was the fact that the amplifier remotes could also be connected to the LAN port of the X6R devices,’ concluded Mr Gan. But more importantly, ‘the Optocore network was rock solid and we had zero glitches.’
