ASIA: German loudspeaker manufacturer TW Audio has announced the opening of a dedicated office for Asia, based in Kuala Lumpur and led by Augustine Edward. The office will deliver support to the brand's network of regional distributors whilst acting as a training centre. Expansion of the existing distribution network is also expected.
Having previously provided technical support for the Asian region, Mr Edward now takes the title of general manager of the KL office. 'Although I've been working for TW Audio for several years in a territory that I know very well, this will be an interesting new challenge for me,' he commented. 'I believe that there is a great potential to build on TW Audio's existing foundation in Malaysia and leverage that success in other parts of the region.'
'Augustine Edward is a well-respected figure within the industry and he has a wealth of experience in the sound business,' added TW Audio managing director Bernhard Wuestner. 'This is especially true for system engineering in the installation and touring markets. Augustine will play a critical role in increasing the presence and achievements of TW Audio in the Asia Pacific area. It is great to have him on board.'
Following the establishment of the office, TW Audio Asia's first order of business was to organise a Demo Day, which took place in early August at Kuala Lumpur's Bukit Kiara Equestrian and Country Resort. The event attracted more than 120 guests comprising members of the Malaysian industry plus guests from China, India, Indonesia, Singapore, and Vietnam.
Also in attendance was Mr Wuestner, who welcomed attendees and introduced the company's M-series systems, powered by Powersoft K3DSP amplifiers via a DiGiCo SD11 console. Mr Edward then presented a discussion on the history and functionality of line arrays. Later, demonstrations were staged with two per-side T24N and four per-side S33 subs, followed by a combination of two L24 low-mid extender with six Vera10 cabinets per-side and eight S33 subs in total. Finally the Vera36 system was demonstrated with 12 boxes per-side plus 16 S33 and six BSX subwoofers. The S33s used end-fire presets while the BSX were in a cardioid configuration. The main stage systems were powered by 16 units of Lab.gruppen PLM+12K44 and played through a DiGiCo SD10 at 96kHz.
The day was concluded with a performance by local artists the John Thomas Trio, who entertained the audience with a unique mix of jazz, hip hop and electronic music through the Vera36 system.
'I was quite nervous to arrange a demo day on such a scale for the first time in Malaysia,' confessed Mr Edward. 'But in the end everybody was smiling and happy, and we got very positive vibes from the audience about TW Audio's sound.'
'I was very pleased with how the whole event turned out,' confirmed Mr Wuestner. 'It was a very good demo day. Many thanks to the audience from Malaysia and around Asia who showed up, to the team from TW Audio Asia and to all our supporters.'
