Avid competition grants opportunity to Mix With The Masters

MEA: Following the success of its Music in Motion contest in the US market, Avid is collaborating with Mix With The Masters to run the competition for aspiring artists in the Middle East, Africa, India and Europe. The competition is open to users of the software house’s Pro Tools First, the free, downloadable version of its digital audio workstation, with three categories - Songwriter, Bedroom Producer and Beat Maker – each selecting a winner who will gain the opportunity to collaborate with a top music industry producer. Once Pro Tools First is downloaded, entrants must create and submit a demo to their chosen category by April 30th.

‘We created Pro Tools First to give individuals trying to break out into the industry the same music creation capabilities used by top artists and recording studios worldwide,’ said Louis Hernandez Jr, chairman, president and CEO of Avid. ‘With this contest now extended to Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa, we’re giving aspiring artists the opportunity to work with the best of the best and potentially make their music dreams come to fruition using the free version of the industry-standard audio workstation.’

The winner of the Songwriter category will win online collaboration with Andrew Scheps, a producer who has worked alongside the likes of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Adele, Metallica and Jay-Z. This will be followed by an expenses-paid trip to experience studio time with Mr Scheps in the UK, where mixer Tchad Blake will record the winner’s song.

The Bedroom Producer category’s winner will receive advice and a completed mix of their song from Tchad Blake. A leading industry engineer, Mr Blake has worked with artists including Arctic Monkeys, Peter Gabriel, Pearl Jam and Sheryl Crow and collaboration will take place online from consulting through to the final mix.

Finally, the winner of the Beat Maker category will be rewarded with the opportunity to collaborate online with Marek Pompetzki and his partners Paul NZA and Cecil Remmler, as well as an expenses-paid trip to Germany to spend a day in the studio with Mr Pompetzki and his team.

All three winners will also receive a complete Avid studio setup, including Pro Tools 12, Pro Tools Quartet, Eleven MK II, and the classic compressors bundle, while six runners-up will receive a Pro Tools perpetual license and a Mix With The Masters annual online subscription.
