d&b covers Oppikoppi

SOUTH AFRICA: Blue Array Productions put to use its inventory of d&b audiotechnik to cover various stages at the recent Oppikoppi festival. The production house used d&b speakers to cover five of the six stages with four as complete d&b stages.

‘The stages are relatively close, so properly designed and implemented rigs for each stage are essential,’ said Kobus van Rensburg, owner of Blue Array Productions. ‘That’s where the constant directivity of the d&b equipment has given us commercial advantage.’

The main stage used 14 J-Tops a side with flown J-Subs and a substantial B2-Sub array on the ground. Delays were all Q-Series. The second stage was V-Series, Blue Array’s latest investment, also with ground stacked B2-Subs, this time in CSA mode. Three was a Q rig, Q1 with Q7 fills and Q-Subs. The acoustic stage also used Q, a stereo pair of flown Q10 at side of stage.

This equipment has been purchased through local distributor Stage Audio Works over the last six years. ‘We have been well supported by Stage Audio Works as we have gone through this expansion,’ noted Mr van Rensburg. ‘That support is a big part of why we have been able to invest and grow our d&b inventory.’

‘The system tech from Blue Array did a great job,’ said Evert De Munnik sound engineer for Mango Groove. ‘I couldn't do a sound check with the system on, so I got a headphone balance during sound check. When Mango Groove started to play I was absolutely blown away. Great definition between all the instruments and vocals. The bass frequencies were solid and punchy. Hi-frequencies very transparent and not harsh at all; very smooth sounding. The big test for me is how the crowd respond to the band, and they were rocking all the time!’
