Delta goes full K1 for F1 concerts

UAE: Delta Sound deployed its L-Acoustics K1 system for both the main PA and outfills at the recent Formula One after-race concerts. The four nights of performances were promoted by Flash Entertainment and took place at Yas Island’s du Arena.

‘K1 mains and K1 outfills make a huge difference with the low end coupling,’ said Robert Eatock, Delta project manager for the event. ‘I found the system to be extremely responsive across the full audio spectrum covering the intended 100m of the venue with very little adjustments. Hanging under the main K1 hangs were four K2 per side as down-fills. This allowed us to focus more energy at the top of the array thus creating a smooth even audio pattern from the delays right down to the stage barrier. Adding to this and making up the full system, we used 12 K2 per side as delays with four SB28 per side. This again proved to be exactly what was needed for the 200m long venue.’

Completing the rest of the solution was six K1SB cabinets flown behind each of the main left and right K1 hangs, timed with the 32 SB28 subs in an arc configuration across the down stage edge. Finally, 12 Kara cabinets were used as front-fills and power for the whole system was via 21 L-Acoustics LA8 racks.

Away from the L-Acoustics side, other system components included gear from Furman, Meyer Sound, TASCAM, Lectrosonics, Rational Acoustics and DiGiCo. The shout and comms systems called on equipment from Clear-Com, Mackie, Shure and Sennheiser.

As for the unique needs of each performance, the Arabic night was the most gear-intensive. Delta supplied Midas, Avid and Yamaha consoles a variety of mics from Shure, Sennheiser, Neumann and AKG as well as BSS and Radial DI boxes. Effects units from TC Electronic, Yamaha and Lexicon as well as a host of equipment from TASCAM, Drawmer, d&b audiotechnik and BSS were also put to use for the performances.

The other performances were from Enrique, Florence and the Machine and Blur. For Enrique, Avid Profile consoles were called into action as well as and extensive mic package from Shure, Sennheiser and AKG and gear from d&b, M-Audio and Avalon. Blur meanwhile called on DiGiCo consoles and a stage monitoring and side-fill system from d&b.

‘All round, the F1 after race concerts were a huge success and I am happy to say that I was part of such a big team of people across all disciplines that put this all together,’ concluded Mr Eatock.
