Delta Sound provides the laughs

UAE: The Dubai World Trade Centre has recently played host to a couple of high-profile stand-up comedy shows, both of which saw Delta Sound supply L-Acoustics solutions. The rental house was engaged by Done Events for Adam Hills’ stand-up show and 117 Live Events as Gabriel Iglesias performed.
When Australian comedian Adam Hills took to the stage Delta Sound’s team, led by Ethan Curry with Rayno Spies assisting, deployed a system comprised of L-Acoustics Kudo line arrays, SB28 subwoofers and X12 loudspeakers. The system was operated during the routine by Mr Spies, who has experience in managing the sound for stand-up.
‘It’s imperative that everyone hears every word,’ Mr Spies noted. ‘We have done a bunch of comedy shows with this system and it works really well in these smaller low venues. It’s a great vocal system and with a bit of careful equalisation and shading we get it really even.’
For the Gabriel Iglesias show, Al Woods of Delta Sound worked alongside 117 Live Events production manager Malcolm Giles, employing nine L-Acoustics K2 systems per side to accommodate the wide audience seating area. Also rigged each side of the stage were nine Kudo systems serving as outfills. The system was setup on the morning of the show by Delta Sound riggers Kashif Majeed and Nadeem Ali.
‘The fellas that rig the system in are both quick and efficient,’ commented Mr Woods. ‘We have a great team here. Rayno Spies looks after FOH and it sounds very natural and everyone is happy.’
Delta Sound also worked in collaboration with 117 Live Events to supply the audio solution as the charity Autism Rocks presented a Prince tribute concert at Hard Rock Café, Dubai. A Tribute to Prince featured performances from Morris Day and The Time, with Delta Sound implementing L-Acoustics Kara loudspeakers for the main PA and Kiva for outfills.
A combination of SB18 and SB28 subwoofers complemented the setup, while front fill and monitoring was handled by the 115XT HiQ and Arcs curvature line arrays supplied side fill. Avid consoles were used to control the system.
