DLC Events supports CoP17 CITES

SOUTH AFRICA: Dubai-based rental company, DLC Events, was recently subcontracted by Conference Communications to support the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP17) to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), which was held in Johannesburg, South Africa. This was reportedly the largest ever meeting of its kind with 152 governments involved, voting on 62 species-listing proposals that were submitted by 64 different countries. Shure’s Danish Interpretation Systems DC6990P microphones and SW6000 conference management software were deployed by DLC Events to handle the voting process.
‘The event saw countries that were eligible to vote on the agenda items issued a chip card giving them voting rights when inserted into their microphone,’ explained DLC Events’ Mark Breakspear. ‘To cater for the complex conference management software requirements that would involve not only technician control but also speaker lists to be shown on the chairman's comfort monitor and the agenda with voting results to be shown on the large screens, DLC built two event operator racks so one could be used in each of the two main event spaces.’
Both racks contained a CU6110 central control unit that served the discussion system, four Mac Minis that were running Windows 10 and the SW6000 software, a Gefen KVM multi viewer providing a view of all four Macs on a single screen, and a Marantz MP3 dual track recorder. ‘The use of the event operator rack instead of the usual installation of multiple laptops meant that along with the reduction in space required, the set up time was greatly reduced and the multiple video outputs of the Mac Minis allowed the same feed to be sent to the multi viewer and to the video control rack with ease,’ added Mr Breakspear.
