Doors open as InfoComm MEA announces standalone show

MEA: InfoComm MEA got off to a positive start in its final appearance co-located with Gitex Technology Week. While never as busy as the IT super-show next door, there was a steady flow of visitors throughout the day and the majority of exhibitors felt it delivered what they were expecting.

Much of the talk on day one centred around the decision from show organiser, InfoComm Asia, to make the event a standalone show in 2016. Many felt that after five years, InfoComm MEA has now established itself enough to strike it out on its own. Equally, the feeling was that as long as it could attract enough new regional visitors through the door, it would be a successful move.

However, there are questions around the December timing of next year’s event and problems that could arise with it clashing with public holidays. The show is scheduled to take place directly after UAE National Day next year, one of a string of regional celebrations that take place at this time each year.

In terms of the show itself, there is the usual selection of seminars, InfoComm University Sessions and technology demonstrations that you would expect at an InfoComm event. Of particular note was the Audinate-organised Dante demonstration which saw equipment from a number of manufacturers, such as Bose, Yamaha and SSL working together on the same network.

While compact, the floorplan boasts a variety of new exhibitors, such as acoustic panelling specialist, Vicoustic and intelligent lectern manufacturer, ILS. Equally, there are a handful of companies that have decided to come back to the specialist A/V event rather than take stands at Gitex this year. The organiser will hope that this trend continues when it moves to a standalone event next year.

InfoComm MEA continues at the Dubai World Trade Centre until Thursday October 22nd 2015.
