DWR and Black Coffee serve the Hilton Arts Festival

SOUTH AFRICA: The Hilton College campus sets the stage for the Hilton Arts Festival each year. For the second year in a row, Durban-based Black Coffee served as the event’s technical suppliers, with its owner, Brandon Bunyan, providing real-world work experience for a group of students from COPA (Centre Of Performing Arts). Meanwhile, Michael Taylor-Broderick from DWR Distribution served as the technical director at the festival.

The larger venues at the KwaZulu Ntal-based college were equipped with MA Lighting dot2 core consoles, while the smaller facilities relied upon dot2 eKing on PC software. The majority of the technical student reportedly learnt quickly and worked very well. Following the event, Black Coffee and DWR presented an award to the two ‘most enterprising and hard-working’ students that were voted for by the college’ technicians.

The festival was deemed a success, with the festival director, Sue Clarence, demanding high quality on all technical aspects. Notable South African producer, director and lighting designer Mannie Manim was on-hand, as was theatre set, costume, audiovisual, and lighting designer Wilhelm Disbergen.

‘It is a huge honour to have a legend like Mannie Manim and the hugely creative Wilhelm Disbergen lighting the productions at the festival,’ said Mr Taylor-Broderick.
