UAE: Dubai-based rental house eclipse Staging Services provided the full technical production for the destination village at the Abu Dhabi leg of the Volvo Ocean Race. The highlight of this was the Blue Planet in Concert event that took place on a floating stage in Abu Dhabi’s corniche and featured a live orchestra.
The rental house provided the lighting, video, rigging and secondary power distribution for the concert, but it was the audio side that grabbed the attention. For this, eclipse made use of a host of new purchases including its d&b audiotechnik Y-Series system and DiGiCo SD8 console with SD-Rack.
The main PA consisted of 16 Y8 speakers alongside eight Y12 cabinets with low end from 12 Y-Subs. Power was via eight d&b D80 amplifiers while a DiGiCo SD8 with SD Stage rack was used for FOH and a DiGiCo SD9 handled monitors. A comprehensive 90-piece mic package from Neumann, AKG, Shure and Sennheiser was called on for concert duties. While L-Acoustics 12XT and 108P took care of the 300m distributed PA.
The concert marked the first major outing for eclipse’s flagship audio kit and the rental house is clearly satisfied with its performance. ‘The concert sounded fantastic, and everybody was really pleased with it, we had some very nice comments from everybody involved,’ said Martin Lubach, general manager of eclipse Staging Services. ‘It was a good event for us and highlights just what our audio department is capable of.’
