Getting the message out

UAE: Sennheiser systems are being used to carry some of the most important messages in the United Arab Emirates, with a comprehensive system recently installed in a new media office for His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, Prime Minister and Vice President of the UAE.
Used for press conferences and major public announcements, the media office features its own broadcast studio and conference room. The latter features full translation facilities – press conferences are usually conducted in Arabic, so correspondents from other countries are provided with translators.
The broadcast studio uses eight channels of Sennheiser wireless microphones, featuring 3000 series EM-3532U twin diversity receivers and 5000 series SKM-5200 microphones with KK-104 capsules. These were chosen for several reasons, such as the wide bandwidth and the unit’s low noise, which is crucial in the broadcast environment.
The conference room features a comprehensive Sennheiser WiCOS wireless conference system, with WiCOS chairman microphone units for the speakers and 50 Sennheiser WiCOS DV delegate microphones for journalists in the room. Allowing all to hear each other, as well as camera crews attending any press conference, the units are all routed via a wireless WiCOS AP interface. This is linked to an SDC-8200 CU digital central unit with four SDC-8200 ID for the translation facilities.
Eight channels of ew-300 G3 microphones are also provided, which serve as floating mics when required, while the translation is also transmitted over Sennheiser’s new SR-2020D and EK-2020D digital RF units, the first to be installed in the region.
Traditionally, translation systems use infrared transmission, but Sennheiser has adapted its Tourguide system digital RF technology to be incorporated into a highly effective translation variant.
‘This is an extremely prestigious installation for Sennheiser and we are very pleased that our products have been trusted with such an important role,’ said Ryan Burr, from Sennheiser Middle East business development.
‘In news briefings every word has to be heard correctly, the extra layer of translation only reinforcing the importance of that. It’s a testament to our reliability and audio quality that vital communications to the world’s media from the region will be communicated using Sennheiser wireless equipment.’
