Glow Productions uses CL5 for The Illusionists

UAE: Glow Productions was the first to take advantage of a ‘free test drive’ campaign from Thomsun Trading to use a pair of Yamaha CL5 consoles for The Illusionists magic show which recently took place in Dubai.

The initial show rider was for a PM5D for the front-of-house and M7CL on the monitors. However, although Glow Productions already owns a pair of Yamaha CL1 consoles and wanted to offer these, the complexity and requirements of the 10-day show meant that it needed to bring in a larger format mixer than the 48 channels available on the CL1. Glow managing director Savio Mendonca approached Thomsun to hire a CL5 for the show, but was pleasantly surprised when help came in the form of two Yamaha CL5s that Thomsun offered for the show as part of the test drive. Glow decided to use its own Yamaha RiO stage boxes with these as well.

The Illusionist’s tour sound engineer from BG Audio Slovakia, Jakub Skriniar was reportedly ‘impressed and thrilled’ when Glow offered to replace both the PM5D and M7CL consoles with two new CL5s. The Dante network and the presence of Thomsun support staff Varun Ashokan ensured that system setup was achieved within the very tight deadline available for the change to be put in place. Yamaha’s Console File convertor utility tool allowed Mr Skriniar to have his entire show transferred to the new CL5 console.

‘I love the neat “Gain Compensation” feature on the CL series. This means that when I change gains on the stage rack for my inputs, the monitor guy doesn't have to worry about his levels,’ said Mr Skriniar. ‘The system compensates for this change for him automatically. Saves everyone a lot of headaches.’

‘The excellent performance delivered by Yamaha’s CL5 during the entire 10 days of the show was a source of constant satisfaction and admiration for our team,’ noted Glow Production’s Gavin Mendonca. ‘Moreover, we are really thankful for the excellent support provided by Thomsun throughout the show.’
