I2 Lounge gets sound system refit

UAE: Dubai’s I2 Lounge has undergone a refit of its sound system opting for a complete system from Electro-Voice to replace a system made up of a mixture of speaker brands, and in need of some upgrading, due to the success of the venue.

Based at the Metropolitan Hotel on the Sheikh Zayed road, Interchange Two is a modern lounge bar with a focus on the visuals as well as the audio. The small and exclusive club boasts a resident VJ who plays mixed videos from the 70s and 80s as well as modern hits.

The installation was project managed by Dominic Calvert, with the equipment supplied by Venuetech. ‘The difficulty with the club is it is small and has very low ceilings,’ explained Mr Calvert. ‘I used under-balcony style speakers designed for low ceiling heights, with wide dispersion patterns and worked closely with Mr Elie Khairallah, Technical Director of Venuetech, to ensure smooth, powerful sound throughout’.

The new system consists of eight Electro-Voice FRi2082 8-inch two-way low-profile speakers, with two TX2181 dual 18-inch subs. Processing is handled by a DC-One two in/ six out digital sound system processor.  ‘We also changed the amplifiers as the old amps were suffering from overheating problems.’ Mr Calvert installed two EV CP3000S and one CP4000S.

‘It was only a small installation that took about three days to do,’ said Mr Calvert. ‘We re-wired and re-tuned the whole system, with new DSP by Ashley, and assisted by Gamasound installation crew.’

The project was commissioned by the Habtoor Group who own the hotel and whom Mr Calvert has experience working with, having previously fitted out the sound system at Nozomi, Japanese Restaurant at the Habtoor Grand, Dubai Marina.
