IBC Content Everywhere MENA cancelled

MENA: The second IBC Content Everywhere MENA has been cancelled due to a clash with the newly announced Martyr’s Day public holiday in the UAE. However, the event has been scheduled to return in 2016.

After its initial three-day Dubai outing in January, the show was scheduled to return for the 29th and 30th November 2015. The subsequent announcement of a national holiday in the UAE on November 30th in honour of Emirati armed forces who have lost their lives defending the sovereignty of the nation led to the cancellation.

‘MENA is an exciting and growing content market, and IBC looks forward to taking an increasingly active role in developing the bridge between the region and the global industry, building on the success of our inaugural IBC Content Everywhere MENA event which took place earlier this year,’ stated Michael Crimp, CEO of IBC. ‘I would like to take this opportunity to thank our MENA industry partners for their continued support of IBC’s global Content Everywhere project.’

The organiser reportedly looked at reducing the format to a single day programme – a move that sponsors were said to be supportive of. But fears over further days being added to the public holiday and the effect this would have on delegates meant this option was discounted. It also looked at moving the event to different dates, an approach it took with the inaugural IBC Content Everywhere MENA. However, according to IBC, this proved unworkable.

Whilst announcing the cancellation of the second 2015 outing, the organiser has also released the dates for the 2016 event. This will take place at the Madinat Jumeirah from 31st October until 2nd November 2016.
