IDS simplifies workflow at Al Jazeera

QATAR: TSL Products’ Intelligent Display System (IDS) has been installed at Al Jazeera’s headquarters in Doha. The installation was completed by Sony for the launch of the broadcaster’s new Arabic studio facility.

The solution is designed to coordinate production workflow, combining television displays and touchscreens to display clocks, timers and dynamic information. Al Jazeera initially planned for separate clocks and production timers inside the studio’s gallery. Using IDS, the broadcaster can distribute information across the entire facility.

‘The main idea behind the installation was for easy information-sharing across the galleries,’ explained Ali El-Husseini, head of network operations standards at Al Jazeera. ‘To monitor the status of the studios, whether live or in rehearsal mode; to indicate which productions were taking place in the studios; and what was required in the newsrooms. With IDS, you can start out small and expand as your needs increase. You can then build the system that fits your requirements as needed.’

‘Although the galleries are currently the only areas whereby the system is installed to reflect clocks, production timing, and tally status,’ Mr El-Husseini continued, ‘it has proven so useful that we are already planning to expand on this so that production information can also be made available.’
