Joburg Theatre adds dot2

SOUTH AFRICA: The Joburg Theatre Complex has increased its investment in MA Lighting consoles with the addition of a dot2 desk for its Fringe stage. The complex already has a grandMA2 full-size console for its Nelson Mandela Theatre and technical manager Enos Ramoroko specified the desk for this smaller space.

The purchase was through MA’s South African distributor DWR via System Solutions, the integration and installation division of the Gearhouse South Africa Group. ‘They needed a desk for running smaller shows that might typically use some moving lights plus a selection of generics and LED sources,’ said DWR’s theatre specialist Dave Whitehouse. According to the manufacturer, the theatre also saw the console’s potential as a stepping stone for training new MA users who could then graduate to the grandMA2 full-size.

DWR ran a dot2 introduction seminar at their offices in Randburg, Johannesburg, which Mr Ramoroko and some of the theatre’s technicians attended. ‘It was such an easy desk to learn and the size suited us perfectly,’ said the technical manager.

The installed dot2 desk is typically used at the Fringe to control around 10 moving fixtures for a variety of visiting productions.
