LETPC becomes an annual event
SOUTH AFRICA: Following the success of its inaugural event, LETPC (Live Event Technical and Production Conference) will return for a two-and-a-half day event spanning 12th-14th May at the Sunnyside Park Hotel in Parktown, Johannesburg. LETPC 2016, sponsored by Gearhouse Group SA, Beautiful Creations and the Department of Arts and Culture, and initiated by SARA (South African Roadies Association), seeks to highlight the necessity of technical and production training within the live events sector.
‘The main aim is for us to move forward on the outlined LETPC 2015 outcomes,’ explained SARA president Freddie Nyathela. Those outcomes were that a transformation forum be established, to conduct a skills-need analysis, that the sector’s average qualification level be upgraded from NQF 4 to NQF 5, and that a ‘backstage academy’ was required to provide further education within the industry. The 2016 edition, as Mr Nyathela noted, will look to ‘follow-through with the implementation of the first SA Backstage Academy, focus on increasing the skills qualification level to NQF5, to set-up the skills need analysis and to bring transformation to the sector.’
Having been given the go ahead to run for the next three years, LETPC 2016 will welcome back last year’s speakers, John Botham from Semperior, Dr Adrian Brooks from Backstage Academy and Blackmotion’s Kagiso Moima. In addition Falco Zanini from VPLT, Julius Grafton of CX Network, Jim Digby from Event Safety Alliance, Tony Kgoroge from CCIFSA and Gearhouse’s Quintus Myburgh currently form the list of international and local speakers announced for this year’s event, with more expected.
