Meyer Sound, DPA and Midas provide theatrical solution

SOUTH AFRICA: A string of musicals have all relied on the same technical equipment for their recent runs in theatres across South Africa. Prosound technical director and renowned theatrical sound designer, Mark Malherbe, was responsible for specifying equipment from Meyer Sound, DPA and Midas for the productions.
The productions included Annie, which played at Johannesburg’s Teatro at Montecasino before moving to Cape Town’s Artscape Theatre, The Sound of Music which ran at the Playhouse Company’s Opera Theatre in Durban and Joseph and the Amazing Techicolor Dreamcoat at Pieter Toerien’s Montecasicano Main Theatre. All of the shows called on Meyer Sound cabinets for reinforcement, DPA d:screet mics to capture the performance and were mixed on desks from the Midas Pro series.
The combination has been a successful one, with Mr Malherbe specifying the same brands for the current run of West Side Story at The Mandela at Joburg Theatre. Equally there are plans for similar solutions at the forthcoming productions of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, King Kong and Funny Girl.
