Michael Broderick joins DWR in Durban

SOUTH AFRICA: DWR Distribution’s Durban branch has been run by branch manager and support representative, Nick Barnes, in what has been a solo effort. Joining the company to work alongside Mr Barnes in Durban will be the newly-appointed Michael Broderick, a lighting designer with more than 15 years of experience.
Mr Broderick put his experience to use at DWR by consulting on entertainment and theatrical events, running training workshops and producing new and unique product demonstrations. The lighting designer is enthusiastic about his new role, seeing it as an opportunity to unleash his creative side.
‘For too long I have shelved many of my own creative ventures,’ declared Mr Broderick. ‘It is extremely satisfying to see that despite the fact that DWR Distribution are a fairly large organisation, every single employee has managed to retain their own identity. The obvious conclusion is that at DWR one is given the freedom to express oneself in a way that suits them.’
‘There is so much we will learn from Michael,’ enthused DWR owner, Duncan Riley. ‘He is a good friend, we’ve had great times together in the past and really are looking forward to the future.’
Durban also happens to be Mr Broderick’s hometown. The lighting designer was equally as ecstatic about being based in the coastal city and the creative opportunity it affords. ‘Durban is a melting pot of creativity,’ he said. ‘We don’t have the money or the resources that our sister cities like Johannesburg and Cape Town have, so we have to make magic less with technology and more with cunning and guile. On another level, I have lived here my entire life. I love Durban.’
