WORLD: d&b audiotechnik has named Gerhard Mayr as its new head of sales. Mr Mayr takes over from Peter Tongue who has retired after almost 14 years with the company. He will be based at the manufacturer’s headquarters in Backnang, Germany.
For this new appointment, d&b took the decision to target recruitment beyond the entertainment industry. ‘Gerhard has skills stretching far outside the familiar toolkit,’ commented marketing director Simon Johnston.
In the 24 years of his career Mr Mayr has held positions with Force Computers (Solectron), Motorola, and most recently Garmin. In these jobs he reportedly played a leading role in developing these brands internationally through engagement with new markets and the reinvention of existing ones, which has also involved spending a considerable amount of his time in Asia.
With his roots in technology, Mr Mayr has also developed his own loudspeakers and amplifiers, at one time even having his own company where he developed a control unit for moving lights.
‘Throughout his career he has demonstrated a willingness to challenge the orthodoxy,’ added Mr Johnston. ‘And has educated markets to accept that quality has a significant value. This is very d&b.’
