Oman TV to go digital with Rohde & Schwarz

OMAN: Rohde & Schwarz has been engaged to deliver and install a complete and countrywide DVB-T2 network at Oman TV. The national television broadcaster in the Sultanate of Oman is switching to digital television while R&S are currently working on similar projects in Qatar, Bahrain, Sharjah and Jordan.
The tender for the nationwide digital TV network was released by the Public Authority for Radio and Television of Oman in late 2014 and with 69 sites, will be one of the largest DVB-T2 systems in the Middle East. Several vendors participated in the tender process, with Rohde & Schwarz selected to receive the primary contract, estimated to be worth more than OMR10 million.
The project was designed, specified, and will be consulted on by the Public Authority for Radio and Television. It is expected to run for 28 months and will see the installation of the DVB-T2 signal processing and transmitter infrastructure, comprising head end, transmitters from 50W to 5kW for 56 of the sites, transposer systems for 13 of the sites, programme feed, monitoring equipment, diverse test and measurement instruments. Satellite receivers and multiviewers will also be equipped at 56 sites while 21 locations will receive network management systems.
The project team from Rohde & Schwarz Middle East and Africa will also deploy third party devices, including UHF TV antennas, satellite dish antennas, feeders, mask filters, dummy loads, voltage regulators and power distribution boards. Multiple local contractors have been enlisted to work on construction and installation throughout the project, which will result in the new digital network going live step-by-step between January 2017 and September 2018.
