Skyflag holds the Emir Cup high

QATAR: For the second consecutive year, QVision Productions deployed Airstar’s Skyflag at the annual Emir Cup held at Al Sadd stadium in Doha. The manufacturer’s helium-inflated cylindrical balloon was used to display a flag measuring 2.3m x 12m that depicted the tournament’s namesake trophy.

Three people piloted the Skyflag from the ground via a series of ropes attached. A narrow tunnel and strong gusts of wind looked set to disrupt the proceedings, but the team managed to position the balloon and flag in time for the national anthem, just before kick-off.

‘Skyflags provide this wow factor,’ explained Luke Baudouin, event manager at Airstar UK. ‘They are easy to deploy, provide a different type of entertainment and fill in stadia space perfectly.’

The Emir Cup is run by the Qatar Football Association each year and comprises 18 teams from the Qatar Stars League and the Second Division. The recent final ended in dramatic fashion as the game ended a 2-2 draw at full-time. Following penalties, Lekhwiya defeated Al Sadd 4-2 to win the cup.
