Solas grows with VRX

UAE: Technical production company Solas AV may have only come to life in 2014, but it has rapidly matured to provide lighting, video, audio, trussing and temporary power solutions for numerous events and exhibitions throughout the Middle Eastern region. Catering for an increasing number of conferences, weddings, gala dinners, fashion shows, concerts and sporting events together of various scales resulted in the Dubai-based company seeking additional loudspeaker inventory. A system that would provide them with maximum flexibility and ease of use were the main criteria in Solas AV opting to consult GSL Professional for its needs.
‘We had a fairly limited budget in which to enhance our inventory, as we needed to cater for more upmarket events,’ explained Solas AV managing director Edward Crossan. ‘Having heard a demonstration of the JBL VRX system at GSL’s showroom, I was extremely impressed with both its power and versatility. When I learnt that they had the product in stock and that I wouldn’t have to wait for weeks, that sealed the deal. GSL’s support from pre-sale to training our staff has been a wonderful experience.’
Consisting of eight VRX932LAP cabinets and four VRX918SP subwoofers, the powered system can be quickly flown on a truss courtesy of the H-DAF frame or scaled back for smaller events using poles for mounting the as tops onto the subwoofers. Loudspeaker management and control comes in the form of a dbx Driverack PA2 processor, whose numerous factory presets can be applied to most events that are being hosted. Soundcraft FX16i 16-channel and EFX-12T consoles have been added to the set up together with 10 JBL PRX712 powered speakers that are primarily used for monitoring applications.
‘We provided full training seminars for the engineers at Solas AV including the JBL line array calculator and VRX software,’ explained GSL Professional’s MI and touring sales executive Abboud Aljuneidi. ‘It allows them to tweak the system from any portable device including a tablet or PC. The Driverack processor comes with an RTA-M real time audio microphone that optimises the venue settings once connected. By measuring the room’s acoustics, the Solas AV team can configure the speaker settings accordingly.’
‘It’s a powered system and as such doesn’t require a rack, which also simplifies set up and minimises cabling,’ furthered Mr Crossan. ‘By ensuring that our technicians are familiar and confident with the technology we have supplied, GSL have ensured that we can host much more professional events.’
