EGYPT: Brit Award-winning singer and DJ Sonique played to a crowd of 10,000 at the annual spring festival at the German University in Cairo using kit from Waveburg, JBL, Yamaha and Crown.
The open-air concert in early May was organised and custom-designed by local events company Hi Wave Events and also featured a set from Cairo-based DJ, Khaled Hussein. Hi Wave turned to Automation Systems to supply the kit for the show.
The setup consisted of eight Waveburg HTL 118 horn-loaded subs ground stacked four per side, 12 JBL VerTec 4888s hung six per side in an L-R configuration, and two Waveburg MCX-15s were used as stage monitors. The PA system was powered by Crown iTech amplifiers, while a Yamaha M7CL console was employed for FOH duties.
The world renowned DJ, who came to prominence with a string of dance hits around the turn of the millennium, was in a celebratory mood for the gig as the week before she had been given the all clear from breast cancer. This was reflected in her performance as she rocked the house and was the talk of Cairo following the show.
